A teen accused of first-degree murder in the death of a York Region police officer did not appear in a Newmarket court on Friday for a preliminary hearing as lawyers work to make arrangements to accommodate his wheelchair.
Const. Garrett Styles, 32, died in a crash on June 28 while making a routine traffic stop in East Gwillimbury, Ont. The 15-year-old accused allegedly attempted to drive away from Styles but lost control of his car, pinning Styles beneath him.
The teen was also seriously injured in the crash and is currently living in a long-term-care facility.
Lawyers met Friday to make arrangements to accommodate his wheelchair, and to set dates for a preliminary hearing.
